This egg is covered in a white chrysanthemum cane.
The cane technique was developed by a good friend
of mine, Elissa Powell. Thank you Elissa!!!!!!
I think that white 'Mum' cane would work well on something
created as a wedding gift. It is actually white, pearl, and
translucent Sculpey III clay, all untinted. I still make the same
untinted cane now, but use Sculpey Premo! Polymer clay only.
Covered in a jelly roll cane.
Sorry it is not a better picture.
This egg (2 views) I called my Hawaiian Print Egg, obviously.
I was still working with Sculpey III at the time, but I did manage
to create some flower canes! Actually, flower canes were the
first canes I made. There were instructions included with the
clay I purchased on making them, and I made bunches!
This egg was made around the end of 2000 with those old canes.
Yay! I found Sculpey Premo brand clay!
This was one of the first I made with Premo!
I used black, metallic Pearl, and metallic
Gold clays. Much nicer in person as you
can see the sparkle in the metallic clays!
This was also one of the first 'mosaic'
type eggs that I did.
Egg is covered in a 'Monet Cane'.
This cane technique was developed by another friend of mine, Mia Rox.
(where did I put the link to her site).
She has many variations of this cane and I keep losing where
all the tutorials are so I have not played with them all yet.
Shortly after discovering Premo I developed a technique that looked like faux abalone (March of 2001). It is still my favorite!
(pictures of side, top and close up)
NOTE: I took this with me to the Ravensdale 2003 Clay Conference. Was a big hit by all who saw it in person!! (amazes me, heh)
Right after making the faux abalone egg I made this one for my grandfather. He is a bricklayer, so I made a 'brick' background. I better leave the laying of brick to him...just look at how awful my rows of bricks are!!!! He is also a gardener, which is why I chose a rose. Other side has a rosebud. Picture of bottom included, top was made the same way.
Right after making the egg for my grandfather
I made this egg for my mother for her birthday, in 2001.
It is her 'Vacation Egg', heh.
(egg made on 05-13-2001)
I made this egg for a friend of mine, Elissa Powell.
Right after those eggs I decided to try going back to flower canes. I am not sure I like this egg, but it was fun making it! I think I will stick to floral beads with these canes, hehe. (side and bottom view)
Well, I guess I did not stop putting floral canes on my
eggs, but it was hard to stay away from doing mosaics!!!
(side and bottom view)
This is one of two eggs I made for the book by Irene Dean (Lark Books) on faux techniques.
NOTE Added July 2003: Wow, I just found out that this egg made the cover of the book! What fun!
(BTW -
Amazon sells this book)
I wasn't as happy with this egg as my first abalone egg. The colors came out grayer than normal, but I was low on funds and working on a deadline for the book, so had to 'go with what I had'. Also, after receiving the eggs back I discovered that without a small 'breather hole' the eggs changed shape during shipping due to air pressures.
Here is the second egg for the book
mentioned above. I had not had a
chance to sand and polish this before
I took some pictures.
This egg is covered in a cane that I made from
Kato Polymer Clay. It was nice to try it out! My mountains
got a little distorted, heh, but that is ok. Looks like a scene
from another planet. I was really playing with a way to do
clouds, than playing with the rest of the scene. I made this
when the first samples of Kato clay were shipped out.
Was that the beginning of 2003?
(man I am awful at trimming out the background around objects...it looks lumpy, lol)
